The Rotenberg-Uzunov Gallery will host on Monday, May 17, 2021, from 17:00, the retrospective exhibition of the painter Gabriel Stephănescu-Arephy, in compliance with the safety norms in force, in order to prevent contamination with the new SARS-COV-2 coronavirus.
The curator of the exhibition is Mrs. Adina Rențea, President of the Cultural Association for the Support of Fine Arts, and the opening speech will be given by the two special guests of the Arephy event, Mrs. Ilinca Ştefănescu-Neagu, the painter’s niece, and Dr. Cristina Lascu.
The opening will be accompanied by musical chords of the young performer, the violinist Vlad Picioruş.
“Initiated in the secrets of fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest under the guidance of painters Nicolae Vermont and George Demetrescu Mirea, painter Gabriel Stephanescu-Arephy completed his studies in Switzerland with Professor Ferdinand Hodler, then in France he enrolled at the École des Beaux -Arts, where he has André Lhote as his mentor.
The artist debuted with a personal exhibition at the Romanian Athenaeum in 1920, then at the Maison d’Arte in 1923 and at the Mozart Salon in 1930. He was present at the Official Salons in Bucharest between 1930 and 1945. He participated in the frescoes in the Coronation Cathedral in Alba Iulia and the panels of the Mamaia Casino in 1936. In Paris he is a member of the Society of Independents where he regularly exhibits at the Salon des Indépendants from 1922 to 1973, as well as at the Bernheim Jeune Galleries and the Valerie Marie Brisot Gallery. In 1974 he was invited to the Knut-Gunther Gallery in Paris and the opening of the exhibition took place on April 26, 1974.
Retrospective exhibitions took place in Bucharest in 1976 and 1984 at the Eforie Gallery and after the revolution a retrospective exhibition from the entire period of creation took place in 2006 at the Dialog Gallery within the City Hall of sector 2.
Academician Răzvan Theodorescu talks about Gabriel Stephănescu Arephy, not forgetting that his talent and inclination towards the artistic field is also due to the education received in the family, the painter being the son of the famous composer George Stephănescu, the founder of the National Opera and brother of the architect Victor Stephănescu from Alba Iulia, the Casino from Mamaia, and in Bucharest from the Palace of Arts, the National Museum of Geology, the Anglican Church, the Palace of the Military Circle): “Son of a musician with a vocation as a founder in our culture, brother of a notorious architect at the time , this painter, with an intellectual chromaticism, built clear forms that testified to his undisclosed debts to a good foreign art and to the national one, of his great contemporaries. In his taste for mask and transvestites, but also for the refinements of some interior or nature corners, I can discern an irony doubled by a lyricist who loved above all, cultivated and lucid, his profession. ”
“In the series of events on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Institutionalization of the National Opera by Royal Decree of 1.04.1921, the exhibition opened on the evening of May 17, 2021, at the Rotenberg-Uzunov Gallery, dedicated to the painter Gabriel Stefănescu-Arephy , the only event dedicated to this artist in recent years! Whose works, classified in the category of Treasure of the National Cultural Heritage, are in famous museums in Romania!
The essential merit of his painting consists in the construction of the composition, of the chromatic explosions and, in the case of portraits, in the accentuation of the expression. He oscillated between a geometrized fovism and an artistically transposed expressionism in a personal way.
An exhibition in 20 paintings, from talent to excellence, from love for “profession” to moral and spiritual duty to the nation and to the country! ”

RAID by Raimund Vernica

RAID, exhibition for sale signed by the young artist Raimund Vernica (known under the artistic pseudonym RAID), is waiting for you starting Thursday, March 18, 2021, at 17:00, at the Rotenberg-Uzunov Gallery, with over 20 works, most of them unexposed public so far, some being made especially for this event.

The world of RAID art is a very special world of the mind. A lush creativity, doubled by a native talent, a meticulousness and precision of details taken to the extreme, in a perfect contrast with a world incapable of understanding the complexity of his emotions and his own feelings.

“Stories about me, about my city, about the meetings and people I interact with are born from a line. I’m not interested in the relationship between shape and color. I’m interested in expressing basic human emotions: tragedy, joy, ecstasy, despair and so on, “said the artist.

With an extraordinary talent for drawing, which he does, often out of cerebral instinct, Raid’s works must be looked at, deciphered and deciphered in the depths of the meanings of his soul. Line by line, geometric, abstract, the surrealism of his work cries out for a normality difficult to achieve and build in everyday life.
They are enigmatic, disturbing, obsessive, lonely, but so deeply human.
Signed encrypted, RAID, the works in the exhibition convey a depth of the artist’s thinking, which tries to shatter the canons of life in which he lives, depersonalization and metamorphosis of the self.

Over 20 works that “talk” about an entire human category, are waiting for you starting March 18, 2021, at 17:00, at the Rotenberg-Uzunov Gallery, one of the most important galleries in Bucharest, in support of contemporary art and artists.

And RAID is one of the most highly rated contemporary artists at auction houses, supported by the Rotenberg-Uzunov Gallery and the artist Eduard Uzunov.

The exhibition is organized by Rotenberg Gallery – Uzunov and the Cultural Association for the Support of Fine Arts and can be visited from Monday to Friday, between 14:30 -19: 30, and Sunday: 14:00 – 20:00, in compliance with the rules of safety in order to prevent contamination with the new SARS-VOC-2 coronavirus.

If I still exist in the art world, after 30 years of activity, it is because I have lived and felt, in these years, unique moments and feelings.  I have seen how art ennobles souls, enhances humanity, love for fellow and the desire to do good!

I wrote some time ago that, in the horizon of the next two months, we will complete the second part of the Art gives Hope project!  After donating 40 works to the Fine Arts Support Association in December for the 6th floor of the Fundeni Clinical Institute, where children with hemato-oncological diseases are located, we are now preparing to complete the project, open the exhibition and, again,  to bring joy and hope to the souls of children!

18 important artists of the moment have joined our approach from the second part, whose preoccupations are also directed towards design, architecture, advertising graphics or book illustration.  The 30 works, whose theme is so beautifully intertwined with the world of fairy tales and childhood stories, can be admired in the exhibition that will open on Wednesday, March 10, at 5 pm, at the Rotenberg-Uzunov Gallery.  Just for a day.  Then they will go to their final destination.

More than 20 artists will transform the 6th floor of the Fundeni Clinical Institute into an art gallery for seriously ill children

Over 20 of the most important artists of the moment will transform the 6th floor of the Fundeni Clinical Institute into an art gallery for children with leukemia, cancer and other serious diseases, hospitalized here or in the newly established hospitalization center in the courtyard of the medical unit.

The project “Art gives hope” was initiated by the businessman Eduard Uzunov, Rotenberg-Uzunov Gallery, “Association for the Support of Fine Arts” (ASAF) and the Association “Wings to Life” and will consist of donating paintings to the hospital,  where even 5,000 children are hospitalized annually.

The paintings will be made in the artists’ own workshops, which will donate one or more works, depending on their personal vision, on the theme that gave the title of the project: “Art gives hope.

Subsequently, the works will be evaluated by ASAF specialists and donated to the Fundeni Clinical Institute, based on detailed donation documents, signed by each artist and will enter the institution’s patrimony.

However, before arriving in the rooms and reserves on the 6th floor of the Fundeni Clinical Institute and in the newly established Hospitalization Center in the courtyard of the medical unit, the works will be reunited in a vernissage, which will take place in early December at the Rotenberg Gallery -Uzunov.

Among the artists from the country and abroad, who embraced this idea are: Marilena Murariu, Costin Neamțu, Lisandru Neamțu, Stela Vesa, Carmen Marin, Lucia Pușcașu, Lucian Liciu, Ion Drăghici, Gabriela Drăghici, Eugen Macinic, Vasile Dobre , Arina Bican, Ileana Dragomirescu, Vali Irina Ciobanu, Carmen Poenaru, Emanoela Szabo, Irina Florescu, Ion Văcăreanu, Mugurel Bărbulescu, Sanda Buțiu, Oana Barsan, Damir Petru, Alexandra Johansen, Mugurel Barbulescu, Eugen Macinic, and the list remains open until opening date.

“As for the construction part several people and / or companies have already offered to support the investment, we thought of a donation, which would bring joy to the children’s souls, consisting of paintings made by some of the best artists of the moment, both for the rooms, reserves and corridors of this floor of the hospital, and for the newly established Hospital Center, located in the courtyard of the medical unit. It is a soul project, through which we try to bring a ray of light in the lives of these suffering children, of their parents, who are permanently with them in the hospital and, last but not least, of the medical staff who take care of them. Because, it is said, art heals, art is perfection, it is a dream, it is a story, for mind and soul, and when it is addressed to people in great suffering, it can become a ray of hope “, he declared Eduard Uzunov, the initiator of the project.

The “Wings to Life” Association has already renovated the 6th floor of the Fundeni Clinical Institute through the project “Big hearts for the smiles of the little ones”, supported by hundreds of people, and is currently building the first day hospital, for the benefit of children affected by cancer. who undergo long-term treatment and who belong to an increased risk group being immunocompromised due to both the disease and cytostatic treatment. ”

The establishment of this center significantly reduces the risk of infections for these extremely sensitive little ones and also offers psychological comfort to children who, after spending months in hospita.

Supporting these children has become part of our lives in the last 10 years we have been volunteering for pediatric hospitals. A spiritual connection was created between us and the medical staff and we tried every time it was necessary to be present and to do everything we could to save a life, so that parents could focus as much as possible for the care of their children “, said Nicoleta Stoenescu, president of the Association” Wings to Life “.

In her turn, the president of ASAF, Adina Rențea, opened her soul for this project: “We started in this approach, convinced that” art gives wings, not crutches “, as the great Victor Hugo said, and we will succeed by collecting works of art donated by famous artists, to bring relief, comfort and hope to the mind, body and soul. ”Art in the form of painting, writing or music is known as the greatest gift that can be given to humanity due to its healing properties on emotions and suffering. The artist – the show, who handles the pencil, the brush and the words with the same ease and expressiveness, something recognized by art critics and lovers of beauty, Horaţiu Mălăele is one of the most important Romanian actors and directors.  Both the actor, and the director, and the poet, and the graphic artist believe that art is the deepest expression of human creativity, an indefinable mixture of curiosity, ineffable, love, which transcends the real, rises in the abstract and approaches God.  “Where is beauty, there is God,” said the ancient Greeks, because love and beauty belong to the divinity!

Feminine – creation and temptation, exhibition signed by Horaţiu Mălăele at the Rotenberg -Uzunov Gallery, between October 29th and November 10th, brings together 18 works, dedicated to the eternal fascination of the female nude.  Subject of artistic contemplation, since ancient times, the female body encloses in its semantics countless symbols and mysteries.  From the ancient Greeks, who had a cult for physical beauty until the Renaissance, when the nude is brought back to the center of the creative vision of great painters and sculptors, the feminine beauty did not cease to arouse, under the brush, pencil or chisel of masters, the most expressive  and emotional artistic representations.

Under the distinct artistic sign of a name already entrusted to art, in its different forms of manifestation, the same and yet always different, Horaţiu Mălăele perceives the female nude in a personal representation, result of an irrepressible need to communicate, to give to those around , beauty, creativity and symbol.  Because when he is not playing, Horatiu thinks of a drawing page, and when he has finished a caricature he prepares to enter a new role or imaginarily draws the lines of a new show.  In the theater or in the movies!  It is the prerogative of the great creators, of history and art!

He had over 40 personal exhibitions, both in the country and abroad, Paris, Munich, Buenos Aires, Toronto and New York, are just some of the most famous cities in the world that hosted the drawings and caricatures of Horatiu Mălăele.  His friends, actors, other visual artists and more, are the main subject of Horațiu Mălăele’s works.  From single-line portraits to carefully constructed nudes, from watercolors to dense abstract painting, his works essentially hide a semantics of symbols.

Refined and of an almost soft simplicity, passionate or innocent in their eroticism, casual or shy, the works present in the exhibition capture the beauty of the female nude, beyond erotic and intangible.  Above all, however, remains the same eternal charm, inexhaustible and perpetually fascinating, of feminine beauty.

The aspects that concern him are infinite, Horaţiu Malaele includes them in an overview, translating them into forms that are as simple as possible, clear, comprehensive, synthetic.  In art, form is never perfect in itself, but in what it manages to express!

About this great artist, Radu Beligan confessed: “Everything that Horaţiu Mălăele does, when he is not simply exceptional, is really brilliant!”
