He was born in 1889, in Craiova. He studied in Bucharest and Italy, where he brought several landscapes in a bold technique, which marked the sensitivity of the public in the first decades after 1900. He also painted a lot in Balchik. Complex, discreet personality, Gh. Ionescu Doru did not have, despite the countless chronicles at the exhibitions between 1926-1944, the appreciation he deserved.

He died completely ignored in 1988.
